RemoteAccess File Base Utility
Version 1.0

Mann Made Software
DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of RAFU must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
"RAFU is supplied as is. The author disclaims all
warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
quential, which may result from the use of RAFU."
RAFU is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
- 1 -
continue to develop new products. If you find this program
useful and find that you are using RAFU and continue to use
RAFU after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
istration payment of $10 to Mann Made Software. The $10
registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
being used at one location while it's being used at another.
Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
same time.
Commercial users of RAFU must register and pay for their
copies of RAFU within 30 days of first use or their license
is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by con-
tacting Mann Made Software.
Anyone distributing RAFU for any kind of remuneration must
first contact Mann Made Software at the address below for authorization.
This authorization will be automatically granted to distributors
recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for
shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering
RAFU immediately (However Mann Made Software must still be advised so
that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
version of RAFU.).
You are encouraged to pass a copy of RAFU along to your
friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users
will receive a copy of the latest version of the RAFU
system.

(Special Thanks)
--------------
Thanks to Stephen Edgar for being my #1 Beta tester
Being the first to try this program he put in a big risk
of having some serious File Data destroyed.
Thanks to all my Beta Team.
Thanks to the people in the SDS who distribute this
and other utilitys at there own costs. I can only hope
that I can make a worth while contribution to some quality
Software that someone somewhere out there might need!

------------
(Introduction)
------------
RAFU is a RemoteAccess File Base Utility.
RAFU will let you sort your file bases out into any
configuration you want. It will make all the neccessary
changes to all the necessary files in your BBS.
- 4 -
---------------------------
(Time to learn how to use it)
---------------------------
RAFU.EXE may be placed in your RA directory
or anywhere on you computer as long as you have your
RA environment set.
RAFU Supports DesQview, but do to Desqviews
ability to write to the Disk, it WILL slow down
the program considerably! I will try to optimize or
find some code that will make the jump into light speed
but for now it is at least supported. No command line
switches are needed for Desqview support.
Start RAFU by typing RAFU at the Dos Prompt. After
a Virus check, RAFU checks to make sure that all of the files
that RAFU needs are accessible. If not you will need to correct
any problems before continuing. If no errors occur then you will
be asked if you want to proceed press Y.
Here you will have a list of file areas to chose from.
They are listed by Name, Security, and by there Original fileBase
Numbers and the New ones that you will change.
- 5 -
Simply move the light bar to the specific Area using
your (Home, End, Up Arrow, or Down Arrow keys). Now press the
(Right Arrow) key on your keyboard. This moves that area into
Queue and allows you to move the light bar to the area in which
you wish to place the area that you previously moved into queue.
Now press the (Left Arrow) key to move the area into place.
This moves the areas in that colunm and below down one area.
If all this sounds complicated do not worry it is real
easy to understand once you try it.
You may press F4 to automatically Alphabetize the areas
for you and then do any other changes you wish after before you
save your changes.
If you want to alphabetize a certain group of areas just
move the light bar to the specific area and press [enter] after
you have marked the areas you wish to alphabetize just press F4 and
it will alphabetize just the areas you marked.
Now you can choose to Save and return to the Main Screen
or Exit.
It also makes two other files in your directory.
These files are RAFU.DAT which is a Data file of what changes it
just made to your system and also RAFU.TXT.
RAFU.TXT is the file that you will need to reference to
if you need to know what changes were made.
RAFU.TXT is laid out easy to understand with the Date, and
Time it was made to the Name:, NewfileNumber:, and the OldfileNumber
which is what you need to make the changes in whatever changes you
want to make.

----------
(Multi-Node)
----------
If you are using Multi Node then you will need to copy
files from your RA root directory to each of your node dir-
rectorys. I do not know much about Multi-Node setups but I was
told that it would be a necessary adjustment.
--------
(Warnings)
--------
RAFU looks for the file base switch's in your menus
to make the necessary changes so if you do not have all of your
/F=?? switches in your menus correct when you invoke RAFU then
they will not be changed or will end up wrong at the end. If
you do not use this method for your file bases then disregard
this warning.
RAFU was made Desqview aware. I do not run Desqview
on my computer but Stephen Edgar who was one of my Beta Testers
does and reported no errors. (Although it is slower!)
RAFU has been tested extensively, but of course no
guarantees are given. Never in testing has any serious
errors occurred and even the minor Bugs during initial testing
where squashed.

(license)
-------
This program is the efforts of many late night
computer efforts.
I ask for a $10 Donation, if you cannot afford $10
then what you can afford would be appreciated. If you can-
not afford anything then a file would be greatly apprec-
iated, just so I know that I did not waste all that time.
Please don't modify and then distribute the program
and/or documentation.
